An estimated 1.62 billion people around the world are diagnosably deficient in iron. Anemia, a deficiency of dietary iron, is unfortunately fairly common around the globe. Anemia impacts hemoglobin production. Hemoglobin are also referred to as red blood cells, which are made in your bone marrow. Adequate dietary iron is essential to this process, as hemoglobin cannot be produced without enough iron. Hemoglobin carries oxygen to every cell in your body, and when your cells do not get the oxygen they need, health and vitality plummet. It’s estimated that at least 3 million people are anemic at any given time here in the United States, with many many more being insufficient or having sub-optimal levels.
Teenaged girls, pregnant women, and premenopausal women are at the greatest risk of iron deficiency. Some populations need more dietary iron than others, it’s a matter of fact. Women tend to need more iron, and be more at risk of iron insufficiency and anemia, due to the menstruation cycle and their ability to become pregnant. During pregnancy, blood volume increases dramatically and iron intake must increase with it in order to produce sufficient hemoglobin for mother and baby.
The Standard American Diet is MUCH lower in iron today than it used to be… One of the many challenges of our modern age is the lack of nutrition in our soil. Mineral levels in America’s top soil have declined drastically over the decades and studies are showing that vegetable crops today have nearly 40% less iron today than they did just a few decades ago! This is a huge deficit compared to what your grandparents got in their diets, and supplementation is often needed to bridge the gap.
Most Iron supplements are low quality and terribly constipating! It’s true, and if you’re reading this, you may have already experienced this fact yourself. Most iron supplements were not formulated with bioavailability in mind, and these cheap, poorly absorbed ferrous sulfate supplements are incredibly binding, upsetting to the stomach, and can be extremely constipating to many people.
I formulated my Iron with Ferrochel® (Ferrous Bisglycinate Chelate) for maximum bioavailability. Ferrous Bisglycinate is an amino acid chelate form of iron. This type of iron is non-constipating, and easy for your body to break down and absorb, making it readily bioavailable. Even better is that the amino acid this iron is bound to is Glycine, which is very gentle on the stomach. Glycine helps with everything from collagen production, to a relaxed mood, and healthy sleep habits.

- Is anemic or has sub-optimal iron levels and needs to raise their iron levels
- Teenaged girls, pregnant women, and premenopausal women who need extra iron in their diets
- Is vegetarian as well as those who do not eat a varied diet high in leafy greens and legumes
- Donates blood regularly
